ZOMBIEs Review - Aug 5, 2008

I posted a review of the new MUSCLE-inspired line from October Toys: Z.O.M.B.I.E.s! As you all may know, I'm a huge zombie nut, and of course, I'm a huge MUSCLE fan, so this line sounds like it could be right up my alley. But you'll never know for sure unless you read on!

Not Again... - Jul 20, 2008
That's right, just when you got used to the design, it's time for yet another redesign of Nathan's MUSCLE Page! If you don't like what you see so far, don't freak out quite yet... I'll be tweaking it over the next few weeks. Also, the home page is the only page that has actually been upgraded, so you'll notice that all the secondary pages still have the old design.

Why am I changing the design? Well, for starters, a lot of things have changed in the design world recently, and the trend now is toward "shiny". And I like shiny things. Also, I wanted to expand the Other Cool Stuff section so that it can include movie trailers, like this super-cool Watchmen trailer:

Anyway, thanks for your patience! If you have any feedback you'd like to get off your chest, just let me know!

I lucked out and found some of the new Madballs at Toys R Us yesterday. There were only a few in the store, so I only got one: the new ball on the block, Repvile. I'll make a full review when I get more of them, but for now, I thought I'd post a quick preview with my comments.

The sculpts of the new Madballs are awesome! The textures seem more developed than the originals, and the sculpts have a much cooler style and attitude. They are certainly a great upgrade over the previous Madball sculpts.

The paint apps are iffy at times. I appreciate what they're trying to do, namely to give the Madballs more realism with different paint washes. But the washes have a tendency to make them look old and used rather than more realistic, which is not what was intended. Screamin' Meemie in particular looked old.

The foam is more squishy than the original Madballs, so how the new series will hold up over time is anyone's guess. Click on the thumb to the right to see the Series 1 assortment. There's also a new official website, so be sure to check it out!

I finally saw the Transformers movie. As you may be aware, I've made it my personal mission for the past year to totally blast this movie from its inception. Does it deserve that treatment? Read on!

Update 6/9/2007: Transformers did some pretty impressive business this weekend, with over $150 million grossed domestically in just six days.

Okay, let's see how this goes. I implemented a blog feature to replace the old HTML-driven news. I had to sacrifice some design elements to make this work (at least, for the time being) but the added functionality more than makes up for it, I think. News is now labeled so you can view news items in a certain category (for example, GI Joe), the news is archived for easy retrieval, and, most importantly, you can comment on the news items by clicking the "comments" link at the bottom of the post. No longer do you have to sit by and passively read my rantings, you can open up a can of whup ass yourself!

Not everything is up to snuff yet. The category page, for example, still looks like crap, so please be patient.

I added the last few news items for testing purposes (the rest has been archived). This is a pretty kludgey setup (I had to employ not only the blogger, but also some AJAX javascript) so I'm not sure if it will work across all browsers yet. If you experience any problems, please let me know.
