Wonder Woman animated movie
- Jul 9, 2008
TV Guide has the scoop on an upcoming straight-to-DVD Wonder Woman animated flick, an origin story featuring Keri Russell as Wonder Woman and Nathan Fillion as Steve Trevor. I've been pleased with DC's recent ventures into animated movies (Justice League: The New Frontier in particular), and I hope this movie is in the same vein. The animated style seems a bit different than the usual Bruce Timm-inspired animation, but since I've been tired of that style for the past few years, I wish it was even more of a departure. I'm not sure how this animated WW movie relates to the previous live action Wonder Woman movie rumors... I'm guessing that those rumors were actually related to this project and not to a live action movie.Labels: Comic Book Movies
My guess is that DC is using this relative success or failure as a barometer for any future Wonder Woman movie ventures.
Honestly, I don't think a WW movie would work. While I love DC it just seems like they have a tough time translating their characters to the big screen. I think the best thing they could do is start something like a Brave and the Bold series. One movie could be the Flash and Wonder Woman, the next could be Green Lantern and Green Arrow, and so on. This could help some of the weaknesses of certain characters and wouldn't have to be a full blown JLA.
Truthfully, I think that the majority of DC superheroes are less grounded in reality than Marvel superheroes, which make them harder to include in live-action movies. Wonder Woman is a great example. But that's not to say that there isn't good movie potential there. Maybe DC could take the TMNT route and do entirely CG movies of its heroes.
